Tell us a bit about yourself and your background

I come from a performing arts background, and have spent over 20 years working in support and leadership roles alongside people living with a range of challenges. My work has always been centred around connection, creativity, and empowering others.

What drew you to Toi Ora and this role as Artist Liaison?

I attended a class at Toi Ora many years ago and have carried that fond experience with me ever since. I always thought it would be an amazing place to work, so I’m absolutely thrilled to now be part of the team and to be here every day.

What are you most excited about working at Toi Ora?

I’m excited to work alongside artists and support them in finding ways to express themselves, while also contributing to their wellbeing. It’s equally inspiring to nurture my own creativity and be surrounded by such a supportive and creative community.

What’s your first impression of the role so far?

I’m loving my time here. My creative heart is beaming, and I feel so lucky to be working with such wonderful staff and artists.

Do you practice any art or creativity yourself?

Yes, I love expressing myself creatively. In my personal time I paint on canvas, shoes, clothing, and pretty much anything I can get my hands on. I also enjoy writing poetry and theatre scripts, and collaborating both onstage and behind the scenes with local theatre companies.

How would you describe how your creative practice affects your wellbeing?

Creativity plays a huge role in my wellbeing. It gives me a sense of balance, helps me process emotions, and allows me to express things that are sometimes hard to put into words. It’s both grounding and energising, and an important part of how I take care of myself

Who’s your favourite artist and why?

One of my favourite artists is Frida Kahlo for her raw honesty and ability to turn personal experience into powerful visual storytelling. I also admire local artists Joanne Webber and Dick Frizzell for their unique styles and contributions to the local arts scene

What do you hope to achieve in the role of Artist Liaison?

I hope to support Toi Ora in running smoothly while helping to create a space that feels safe, fun, and creatively inspiring, where everyone can truly be themselves and thrive. I’d also love to see Toi Ora and its artists gain greater recognition for the incredible work they do.

If you see her in the Toi Ora studio, feel free to say hi!
